BMC YCS Round 2 at Nottingham Climbing Centre

The second round was held this weekend with some brilliant results from Foundry based young climbers. Jim Watkin (BMC Area Youth Co-ordinator), has given this brief report of the event. Well done to all who tookm part and good luck with the third round at The Edge!

Another great day for the Foundry Academy! Of the 7 Academy members entered for Round 2, no fewer than 6 finished in top three positions in their categories!! This puts all of them in a great position to reach the finals with just one more round to come. The full run down is as follow:

Girls Youth D – again Pippa Watkin and Abbie Rivett led the way on Saturday with 1st and 2nd place respectively on the day. This leaves either of them poised to claim overall first place after the third round next month. Jenny Hall, whilst not in the places on Saturday, finished in 5th after another really good day’s climbing from our youngest member!

Boys Youth D – Mark Alkins-Tooth continues his domination with another deserved first place, topping out on every problem and is now set to retain his Area title from last year.

Girls Youth C – Erin Moore again surpassed far more experienced climbers to finish 3rd on the day and hold on course for a potential finals spot.

Girls Youth B – Bethany Jennings again took 3rd place on the day to move towards another potential final spot after Round 3

Boys Youth B – Alex Hall came through with another strong showing to finish 2nd

Other regular Foundry climbers on the day were as follows:

Poppy Lee – 1st place Girls Youth E
Samuel Doyle – 2nd place Boys Youth D
Dana Windle – 4th place Girls Youth C
Tom Lee – 2nd place Boys Youth C
Tom Doyle – 7th Boys Youth C
Georgia Hoyland – 1st Girls Youth B
Pareesa Tai – 2nd Girls Youth B
Jack Shaw – 1st Boys Youth A

All in all, there is some exceptional talent amongst the young climbers at The Foundry. All credit to the staff and coaches there for all their work!!
