Youth Climbing Series final round

The Foundry’s final round went really well.   58 competitors entered. Jim Watkins, BMC ARea Youth Coordinator wrote:
‘The Foundry will have three Foundry Academy representatives at the final. Alex Hall finished as Area Champion in the Boys A category, Erin Moore was runner up in the Girls B and Pippa Wakin was third overall in the Girls C category. All three will climb in the final in Edinburgh on 15 June. Two other mentions. Abbie Rivett got two third places in the rounds and just missed out on challenging for the final due to being injured for the second round and Jenny Hunt was literally just edged out of overall third on a countback across all climbs across the series after finishing level with the eventual third placed competitor’.

Livingstone wall reset

This week we’ve totally reset the Livingstone Wall. There’s now 27 new routes, set by Rob Napier and Bob Hickish.

You can download the route topo here.

Loads of new routes to try!

Setting wise, we’ve got a few things coming up.

There’s The Foundry’s round of the BMC Leading Ladder, which starts 3rd November, then we’ll also be doing a topper upper in the Furnace the following week.

After that there’s the small matter of completely resetting all the bouldering circuits for the first round of the Foundry Winter Bouldering League.

This year is gonna top last year without a doubt!

Stay tuned.

New boulder circuits

We’ve now completed the reset of most of the level 1,2,3 and elite circuits. Levels 1, 2 and 3 were set by Paul Bennett, Ashley Hall and Karl Bacon. Level 3 / elite by Steve McClure. As always, let us know what you think.

The problems won’t be up to long though, as everything’s coming off for Round 1 of The Foundry’s Winter Bouldering League, which is on November 12th!

If you missed the comps last year, check out the highlights here.

YCS results for Round 3 21st April at The Edge

A great effort to all of you who competed this weekend, brilliant results!  Jim Watkin sent this short report.

Another really fantastic set of results for Foundry based climbers as below.  We are hoping to get people together Thursday night for a photo as usual but thought I’d update in the meantime.

The Foundry Academy can now proudly boast no fewer that 3 Area Champions, 1 Runner-up and 2 3rd placed overall at the end of this year’s Peak Area rounds of the YCS.   All these climbers now progress to climb for the Peak Area at the National Final at Ratho on 23 June.

Results for the Foundry Academy:

In Girls Youth D, Abbie Rivett and Pippa Watkin fought it out all day for 1st place on the day and the Area title, going all the way to a three way superfinal together with Martha, a Nottingham competitor.

Ultimately, Abbie climbed awesomely and secured joint first in the superfinal while Pippa climbed perfectly but came up a little bit short.  Abbie therefore reigns as Area Champion for 2012 with Pippa a deserved second place.  Elsewhere in the category Jenny Hunt climbed just great to secure an overall 5th place in an extremely competitive category.

In Boys Youth D, Mark Alkins-Tooth climbed magnificently, blasting away all comers to easily retain his tile as Area Champion for 2012.

In Girls Youth C, Erin More climbed excellently all day and all series to finish 3rd on the day and 3rd overall.  this is Erin’s first competition trophy so well done Erin!

In Girls Youth B,  Bethany Jennings climbed beautifully to again finish 3rd on the day and 3rd overall – another first trophy for Bethany!

Finally in Boys Youth B, Alex Hall climbed amazingly to secure first place on the day and take the title of Area Champion 2012 in this category.

Other regular Foundry based climbers also put up great showings, securing even more Area titles and places as follows:

Girls Youth E – Poppy Lee – Area Champion 2012
Boys Youth D – Samuel Doyle – Overall 2nd Place
Girls Youth C – Dana Windle – Overall 4th place
Boys Youth C – Tom Lee – Area Champion 2012
Boys Youth C – Tom Doyle – Overall 7th Place
Girls Youth B – Georgia Hoyland – Area Champion 2012
Girls Youth B – Pareesa Tai, Overall 2nd Place
Boys Youth A – Jack Shaw – Area Champion 2012

Good Luck to all the competitors who made it through to the Final on 23 June
