Membership Rules & Fees

Becoming a Member

To become a member and use the Club facilities, you will need to have the skills and knowledge to ensure you can participate in the activity without endangering or hurting yourself or others. Members must read and sign up to our conditions of use.

A Foundry member can sign in two guests and are responsible for their safety during their use of the facilities.

It is essential that all registered members understand the rationale and importance behind the BMC's Participation Statement. To climb safely and well requires the ongoing application of skills and personal judgement.

The BMC Participation Statement
“The BMC recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.”

Under 18s and Novices

If you are under 18 or new to the activity, then the club has a higher duty of care towards you and this will require further paperwork to be completed. Novices and under 18s can either be signed in by a member or an instructor (look at our instructed sessions) until they are ready to join as a member. Climbers aged between 14 and 18 can become members after an assessment, lead climbing requires an additional assessment.

Instructing your own groups

External climbing Instructors & Coaches may access the facility to teach climbing so long as they hold a CWA or SPA as a minimum, and have the correct first aid certificate and insurance. Please can you email all these documents to prior to your visit. You can sign in up to 8 novice climbers.
